The Festival of the Arts

Hey, I got to tell you about my Friday afternoon trip to Oklahoma City’s The Festival of the Arts. It was really neat. The art took up a whole street and there were all sorts of activities and events going on. There were like four stages for live music; one had a children’s choir, the stage in the Myriad Botanical Gardens played a mix of everything, the one in the food court played mainly folk music, and there was a small stage for solo artists. There were some live glass blowing. There were two guys from Canada doing tricks and comedy. One could paint a pot. Drew and Kaci Too from a radio talk show on 98.9 KISS FM where there. There was a children’s art gallery where kids could go inside a tent a buy cheap art. I had lunch while I was there. Man, there was a ton of food choices. I looped around the selection three times trying to make up my mind before settling for a philly cheese stake for lunch. The neat thing was each of the food booths were raising money for different art related groups in the city, so it all went to a good cause.

As for the art itself, there was a mix of everything. Like I said earlier, it did take up a whole street, but it would be cooler if there was even more art that expanded throughout the gardens. Most of the art was for sale. The artists were on show next to their art, so you had to be careful about what you say around a piece of art. Even one artist painting in front of people. I didn’t really personally talk to any of the artists, though I did listen in to some conversations. Here some pictures of some of the art that was on display.

As you can see, there really was a great selection. I spent about, I want to say, three to four hours in the downtown area. After the festival, I decided to walk around the downtown area for a bit. I ate at Sonic for dinner so I could get my parking validated thus free parking. Hehehe. During my walk, I found 3D Horror Ride that wasn’t open at the time. They opened at six and it was like five and I figured I would just save it for another day. So, yeah, I had a lot of fun Friday.

This morning before work, I went yard sale hopping. One place I had been seeing a huge banner for a sale on Saturday turned out to be a huge joke. I did stumble on a large neighbourhood sale. I walked like half to a full mile checking it out. I ended up not buying anything despite seeing a coffee table I kind of liked. After work, I went to Target and Pier One Imports looking at their home decor and then I went home visited Amazon’s selection. Again, not buying anything, but getting ideas.
